Some Christmas journals are all aged paper and Victorian postcards. Others are full of gnomes, mice, penguins and storybook scenes, the kind of pages a child grabs first and a grown-up secretly enjoys just as much. Whimsical Christmas junk journal pages are for the second kind: a family journal, a project with kids, or a gift for someone who likes cute better than antique.

I went through 22 character and storybook listings on Creative Fabrica and kept 7 printable packs, from an 87-sheet pastel cat kit to Alice in Wonderland spreads and four Christmas animals. Each one below lists its contents, size, format and a drawback. After the picks there’s a page-count planner, a guide to double pages and a simple three-hole binding.

How I chose these packs

I looked at 22 cute and character-themed Christmas listings on Creative Fabrica and judged them on:

  1. Style: playful, storybook or pastel. Antique kits are in a separate guide.
  2. Print-readiness: a stated size, resolution and format.
  3. Variety: each pick needed a different character or theme.
  4. Completeness: a full kit ranked above pages alone when the style fit.

Four of the picks (#4 to #7) come from one series that shares the same format and listing template. I’ve included four because the characters are different, but the paper size, page count range and file type are the same across all of them.

Everything here comes from the sellers’ descriptions, file details and previews. I haven’t printed or tested these packs, so read each drawback as something to check before you buy.

A complete kit

Most complete

1. Mega Christmas Cats Junk Journal Kit

Mega Christmas Cats junk journal kit preview with pastel cat papers, ATC cards and ephemera
Preview via Creative Fabrica

This is the only full kit in this guide, and it’s a big one. The designer describes “dreamy pastel colors and adorable Christmas-themed cats,” and at 87 sheets it’s the largest download in either of my Christmas guides: papers, journal pages, backgrounds, journaling papers, plus extras like ATC cards and bookmarks.

  • 30 cat papers (8.5 × 11 in)
  • 12 Christmas cat journal pages and 10 pastel backgrounds (11 × 8.5 in)
  • 20 Christmas journaling papers (8.5 × 11 in)
  • 4 sheets of ATC cards, 1 sheet of bookmarks
  • 7 sheets of ephemera, 2 sheets of elements, 1 sheet of tags and words

With 87 sheets you could fill a thick journal and still have pages left for gift tags and cards. ATC cards (artist trading cards, 2.5 × 3.5 in) are also fun to tuck into pockets or swap with friends.

Drawback: the soft pastel, cute style won’t sit well next to vintage ephemera, so plan this as its own journal. The listing doesn’t state the resolution, and it mixes portrait and landscape sheets, so check orientation before printing a batch.

2. Christmas Alice in Wonderland Printables

A small, focused set of nine Christmas Wonderland spreads designed as double pages. The designer describes them as having a “whimsical, vintage-inspired touch,” so they’d also sit comfortably next to older-looking ephemera.

It has the most complete file set here. You get JPGs, a single PDF with all nine pages for easy printing, and a layered PSD file if you want to rearrange or combine pages in Photoshop. The designer’s own tip is to print at 100% scale on US Letter paper and to test one page first.

  • 9 double-page spreads, 8.5 × 11 in (US Letter)
  • 9 JPGs at 300 DPI, 1 PDF, 1 PSD

Drawback: nine spreads is enough for a small journal or a signature, not a thick book. The PSD is only useful if you have Photoshop or an editor that opens PSD files.

3. Fairytale Christmas Junk Journal Paper

The listing paints a clear picture: snowy villages, gingerbread forests, fairies, elves, woodland animals and tiny cottages, with sparkles and snowflakes on soft backgrounds. The listed palette is icy blue, frosted pink, cream, soft gold and forest green, much gentler than the usual red and green.

  • 25 sheets with two designs each, 50 pages once cut
  • US Letter (8.5 × 11 in), 300 DPI
  • JPG files

Those wintry colors mean the pages can carry a journal from December into January.

Drawback: it’s pages only. You’ll want tags or journaling cards from another set, and the cat kit’s pastel pieces would match the colors well.

Christmas animal page packs

These four come from the same series, so they share a format: landscape 11 × 8.5 in sheets, each with two designs side by side, 300 DPI JPGs. What changes is the character. Pick the one you love, or mix two for a journal that tells a little story.

Gnomes

4. Christmas Gnome Junk Journal Paper

Christmas gnomes in a range of holiday scenes. If you like fussy cutting, you can trim a character off one page and glue it onto another as an embellishment, which stretches a 40-page pack further.

  • 20 double pages, 40 pages once cut
  • 11 × 8.5 in (landscape Letter), 300 DPI, JPG

Drawback: the listing describes the scenes only in general terms, so look through the full preview to see whether the gnomes are the style you want.

Mice

5. Christmas Mouse Junk Journal Paper

The listing calls it a “fairytale Christmas mouse” kit, with whimsical mice in festive holiday scenes. A small character suits a small book, so this is the pack I’d use for the pocket-sized mini journal described further down.

  • 20 double pages, 40 pages once cut
  • 11 × 8.5 in (landscape Letter), 300 DPI, JPG

Drawback: like the rest of the series, the listing also gives A4 measurements in millimeters, so check the actual file size after download if you print on A4.

Penguins

6. Christmas Penguin Junk Journal Paper

Penguins in playful winter scenes. At 25 double pages it’s one of the larger packs in the series, and the listing leans on words like “snowy” and “frosty,” so expect more snow than tinsel.

  • 25 double pages, 50 pages once cut
  • 11 × 8.5 in (landscape Letter), 300 DPI, JPG

Drawback: if you want lots of red-and-green Christmas color, the gnome or mouse pack may suit you better. On the plus side, the winter feel keeps it useful after December 25.

7. Christmas Chicken Junk Journal Paper

Preview via Creative Fabrica

Christmas chickens in cozy holiday scenes give the journal a country, farmhouse feel, and nothing else on this list looks like it. It’s a fun pick for anyone who keeps backyard hens, or as a gift for a friend who does.

  • 24 double pages, 48 pages once cut
  • 11 × 8.5 in (landscape Letter), 300 DPI, JPG

Drawback: it’s a niche theme. If you’re not sure, start with the gnomes, which fit most Christmas journals.

The same series also includes deer, snowmen, Santa, Christmas houses, a Christmas witch, a celestial theme and more, all in the same format. If none of the four above is your character, it’s worth browsing the rest of the set on Creative Fabrica.

Which pack should you choose?

If you want… Choose
Everything in one download, including tags and ATC cards Mega Christmas Cats Kit
A small journal with the easiest printing (PDF) Christmas Alice in Wonderland
Soft colors that also work in January Fairytale Christmas or Christmas Penguin
A classic Christmas character Christmas Gnome
A tiny pocket-sized mini book Christmas Mouse
A gift for a friend with backyard hens Christmas Chicken

How many pages will you get?

Listing page counts can be confusing, because a “double page” is one sheet with two designs. The table assumes you print one side, fold each sheet in half and group five folded sheets into one signature.

Pack Sheets Signatures of 5 sheets Page sides (printed + blank)
Christmas Gnome 20 4 80 (40 + 40)
Christmas Mouse 20 4 80 (40 + 40)
Christmas Chicken 24 4, plus 4 spare sheets 96 (48 + 48)
Christmas Penguin 25 5 100 (50 + 50)
Fairytale Christmas 25 5 100 (50 + 50)

The blank sides are useful: they’re where you write, glue photos or attach pockets. Four or five signatures make a comfortably thick journal, so any one of these packs is enough for a full book.

A mini book from half pages

For a pocket-sized journal, cut a double-page sheet in half to get two 5.5 × 8.5 in pages, then fold each half in half again. You get a little 4.25 × 5.5 in folded leaf. Nest five or six of them and stitch them with the three-hole method below for a mini book that fits in a stocking.

How to use double pages

Most packs in this guide use “double pages”: a landscape sheet with two designs side by side. You have three ways to use them.

  1. Cut each sheet in half for two separate 5.5 × 8.5 in pages (half-letter), ready to glue onto other pages or use as journaling cards.
  2. Fold it with the printed side in for a decorated two-page spread with a blank back. This is the easiest way to build a signature.
  3. Fold it with the printed side out, and the two designs become the front and back of a folded leaf with blank space inside for writing.

Tip: mix all three in one signature. A spread, a half page glued on as a flap and a blank inside page for writing give each signature the layered look junk journals are known for.

A simple three-hole binding

For a first journal, a three-hole stitch through the fold is all you need. This is the method from The Graphics Fairy’s binding tutorial:

  1. Nest your folded pages and hold them together with binder clips at the top and bottom.
  2. Mark the center of the fold, then mark 1½ in above and 1½ in below it.
  3. Pierce all three marks through the whole stack with an awl.
  4. Thread a large needle with embroidery thread and go in through the center hole.
  5. Go out through the top hole, along the outside of the spine to the bottom hole, and back in through the center.
  6. Pull the stitches snug and tie a knot inside.

Make one stitched bundle per signature, then glue or stitch the signatures into a cover.

Making a Christmas junk journal with kids

Kids usually go straight for the character pages, and a few habits keep the session calm:

  • Pre-cut the pages for younger children and let them choose and arrange.
  • Use glue sticks or double-sided tape instead of liquid glue, which wrinkles paper.
  • Keep the awl and needle for an adult, or skip sewing and tie the pages together with ribbon through punched holes.
  • Give each child their own character pack. A gnome journal and a penguin journal side by side make a fun sibling project.

Ideas for a whimsical Christmas journal

  • Write a letter to Santa and tuck it into a small envelope on a pocket page.
  • Give each December day its own page, with a different character each week.
  • Keep a Christmas wish list on ATC-size cards from the cat kit.
  • Glue holiday photos onto half pages and caption them.

Printing and license notes

All seven packs print on standard US Letter paper. Use matte paper around 24 to 28 lb for pages and light cardstock for tags and covers. My printing guide has a full paper table.

On licensing: Creative Fabrica allows unlimited physical products from purchased files, but you can never share or resell the files themselves, and a subscription license stops covering new products after you cancel. The license summary in my vintage kit guide has the details.

Frequently asked questions

What are whimsical Christmas junk journal pages?

They’re printable journal pages with a playful, storybook or cute style, such as gnomes, mice, penguins or fairytale scenes, instead of antique photographs and aged paper.

Can kids make a junk journal with these pages?

Yes. Pre-cut the pages for younger children, use glue sticks, and let an adult handle the awl and needle, or tie the pages with ribbon instead of sewing.

How do I print double pages?

Print them on US Letter paper at 100% scale in landscape orientation. Then cut each sheet in half for two pages, or fold it to make a spread.

Are these pages free?

No, they’re paid products on Creative Fabrica. You can buy each one individually, and many are also available through Creative Fabrica’s subscription.

Can I mix different characters in one journal?

Yes. Packs from the same series share a size and format, so they combine easily. A gnome signature next to a mouse signature works well.

Final thoughts

For the most complete set, get the Mega Christmas Cats Kit. For a small, beautiful storybook journal, the Alice in Wonderland spreads come with the best files. And if you just want one character, the gnome pages are the easiest to fit into any Christmas journal.

If you’re making the journal with kids, let each child pick a character from the four animal packs; they share one format, so the finished journals will match on the shelf.
